In just one month, your Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be taking the field for the first time in 2026 as they will take on Bowling Green on February 13th at Russ Chandler Stadium. Following an encouraging fall camp, the Jackets enter 2026 with big goals that will hopefully culminate in their first appearance at Omaha since 2006 and their first College World Series championship in school history.

A new era of Georgia Tech baseball is being ushered in after Danny Hall retired following the 2025 season as the all-time winningest coach in school history. James Ramsey, Danny Hall’s assistant coach for five years and a member of the staff for seven, is now at the helm for the Jackets and is looking to carry on coach Hall’s winning ways and then some.

Ramsey and company spoke to the media on Monday about the outlook for his first season as head coach. There seems to be a big emphasis in the clubhouse to use their past failures to fuel the team to get better. Ramsey mentioned he had his players watch “lowlights” from previous seasons as opposed to highlights in a recent team meeting to remind the players of where they have come up short and that even the best players that have come through the program know what it’s like to fail:

“One thing we did before they left for break in our final meeting was show a video where they thought they were going to see the highs but we showed them the lows. It was the things that I told them continued to fuel me personally and fuel the rest of our staff that’s been here throughout the journey, and then also the players that have been a part of those moments where we haven’t gotten it done.”

With a season-ending loss at the hands of Ole Miss at the Oxford Regional, this current Jackets team has past failures fresh on their mind – but that is only used as reason to get better. That sentiment couldn’t have been made more clear when Drew Burress, top MLB draft prospect this year, spoke to the media saying, “You don’t know what it’s like to win if you don’t know what it’s like to lose.” Learning from their past failures and pressing on towards the end goal seems to be the theme for the Jackets in 2026.

Despite having a new coach in charge and an early playoff exit in 2025, Georgia Tech comes in ranked as one of the top teams in the country across multiple outlets. Ramsey was asked about the high expectations for the team and how he plans to navigate those expectations: “Expectations are high and that’s exactly how we want them to be.”

Ramsey knows he has been entrusted with one of the top rosters in the country and he knows this group is capable of meeting those expectations. This is a team that won the ACC regular season championship in 2025 and returned their impact talent while acquiring a number of key additions in the transfer portal.

“They got a little taste of it last year. Winning the ACC championship is no small feat, but this group has obviously set their sights on higher things than that.” Staying on top of the ACC in 2026 is simply the first step for this group as a trip to Omaha and taking the hardware back home to Atlanta for the first time in school history remains the ultimate goal.
