D1 Baseball released their pre-season All-American teams on Tuesday, and it featured three Yellow Jackets – Drew Burress, Vahn Lackey, and Jarren Advincula. Burress is the headliner as one of the outfielders chosen for the first team while Lackey and Advincula both made the second team – Lackey as catcher and Advincula as second baseman.
All three players are very deserving after each of them posted excellent sophomore seasons and are expected to play a big role in Georgia Tech’s quest to return to Omaha in 2026. All three are MLB draft prospects this year as well, with Burress expected to be a top ten pick, Lackey with the potential to be a top 15 pick, while Advincula is expected to slot in somewhere towards the back of the first round. A lot can change on draft boards between now and July 11th, but it’s safe to say the Yellow Jackets are sending off three future big league ballplayers following the conclusion of the 2026 season regardless of where they may land.
Drew Burress
The All-American first team selection is one of many accolades for Burress thus far in his college career. The center fielder broke on to the scene as a freshman in 2024, earning freshman All-American first team honors, All-American third team honors, and the ACC Freshman of the Year award. Burress posted a ridiculous slash line of .381/.512/.821, good for a 1.333 OPS while hitting 25 home runs in his freshman year.
While Burress’s production took a slight step back in his sophomore year, he still finished the season as a Golden Spikes semifinalist and earned All-American third team honors by Baseball America as well as an ACC first team selection. He hit 19 home runs as a sophomore while posting a .333/.469/.693 slash line. Entering his draft year, both Burress and the Yellow Jackets are hoping he can top both his impressive freshman and sophomore seasons en route to Omaha.
Vahn Lackey
Lackey’s list of accolades isn’t quite as extensive as the aforementioned Burress, but Lackey is primed to have just as good a season. Lackey broke out in his sophomore season a year ago as he earned an All-ACC 2nd team selection. The elite defense behind the plate has been Lackey’s calling card thus far, but made some significant strides as a hitter last year, setting himself up to be one of the top players in the country in 2026.
Lackey left the yard six times in 2025 and also swiped 18 bases while he posted a .347/.421/.500 slash line which was good for a .921 OPS, up from just a .711 OPS in his freshman year.
Jarren Advincula
Jarren Advincula is Georgia Tech’s third pre-season All-American and a recent transfer from California. Entering his junior year with the Yellow Jackets, Advincula is coming off of a sophomore campaign with California in which he earned a spot on the All-ACC 2nd team alongside his new teammate, Vahn Lackey. He also was a part of the All-PAC 12 first team as a freshman in 2024.
Advincula posted a .325/.404/.458 slash line, good for an .862 OPS with five home runs as a freshman before he followed that up with six home runs and a .342/.410/.506 slash line in his sophomore year. Advincula will presumably take over the shortstop role for the Jackets in 2026 after manning second base for California in each of the last two seasons.
