Following a big time series opening win over California by a score of 17-2, the Yellow Jackets cruised the rest of the way to their fifth series sweep of the season and second in the ACC in as many weeks.

With the three wins over the Golden Bears, the Jackets extended their win streak to eight games which ties their season high dating back to their win streak to start the season. Now at 26-5 overall and 12-3 in the ACC, Georgia Tech moves into first place in the ACC ahead of Florida State and North Carolina. As for California, they fell to 14-16 overall and 1-11 in the ACC, leaving them in last place in the conference standings.

The pitching for the Jackets continues to trend in the right direction as they allowed just seven runs in this series, not allowing more than three in a single game. In fact, they haven’t given up double-digits in a game since the second game of their series with Pitt two weekends ago, with four being the highest run total they’ve given up since. Between Georgia Tech’s three starting pitchers this weekend – Tate McKee, Porter Buursema, and Jackson Blakely – they covered 13.1 innings and only allowed a single un-earned run on seven hits, two walks, and 16 strikeouts. The sophomore Jackson Blakely remains the hot hand in the rotation, now having delivered three straight scoreless outings in which he has thrown at least four innings in as well. He now has 16.1 consecutive scoreless innings in which he has allowed just eight hits, three walks, and 14 strikeouts.

The offense was of course the main driver of success as it has been throughout the season, scoring a total of 16 runs in the final two games after putting up a crooked 17-spot in game one. Will Baker came away with a multi-home run game in the opener while Alex Hernandez, Kent Schmidt, Ryan Zuckerman, and Drew Burress all left the yard as well. Zuckerman’s home run on Friday brought him up to 11 on the season which tied Vahn Lackey for the team lead. Jarren Advincula was the real producer this weekend, coming away with six extra-base hits, four via double and two via triple to bring his hitting streak up to 15 games. Carson Kerce also remains at the top of the country’s leaderboard in doubles as he added one to his total on Thursday night, bringing him up to 17 on the season.

For California, they will take on San Francisco in their mid-week on Monday before traveling cross-country to take on Pitt over the weekend. The Jackets return home for a mid-week on Tuesday at home with Kennesaw State before welcoming in Florida State for a huge ACC series that will take place Thursday through Saturday.
