Following an impressive series win on the road over #19 Clemson, the competition doesn’t get any easier for Georgia Tech as they are now gearing up for a consensus top five mid-week match-up. The Jackets remain on the road, heading west to #4 Auburn to take on the Tigers in what will be the first of two games in which these two highly-talented programs will face off this season.

Auburn is currently riding a four game win streak over the Jackets dating back to 2024 as they took both meetings in 2024 and 2025. The last match-up in which Georgia Tech won was in their second meeting in 2023 where the Jackets won by a score of 12-8.

Georgia Tech is sending the red-shirt right-handed Dimitri Angelakos to the mound for his third straight mid-week start. This will be the biggest test for Angelakos thus far as he faced a much lesser Georgia State and West Georgia in his two starts prior. At .323, Auburn is an offense that currently ranks 21st in the nation in hitting and owns a .922 OPS as a unit. In his two starts thus far, Angelakos has thrown 8.1 scoreless innings on four hits and seven strikeouts while allowing zero walks, so he’s expected to compete with this strong Auburn team.

For Auburn, they will send a starter to the mound with a little more experience than Angelakos. It will be sophomore right-hander Andreas Alvarez for the Tigers, making his fifth start for the season, all of which have come in mid-weeks. Across 19.2 innings in his four starts thus far, Alvarez owns a 1.37 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 34.6 K% to a 7.7 BB%, while opposing hitters are hitting just .217 off of him. In his freshman season a year ago, Alvarez made nine starts and 14 appearances, posting a 4.80 ERA across 45 innings of work. In the same way Angelakos will be facing his biggest challenge thus far with Auburn’s offense, it is Georgia Tech’s lineup that certainly poses a big threat to Alvarez.

The Auburn lineup features three hitters with an OPS north of 1.000 coming into this one – freshman second baseman Brandon McCraine (1.118), sophomore catcher Chase Fralick (1.089), and junior center fielder Bristol Carter (1.068). Fralick leads the team in home runs with five. Although it has not shown up on the stat sheet yet, sophomore second baseman Chris Rembert is a hitter to watch out for as well. Rembert is a potential first round pick in this year’s MLB draft and is one of the premier infielders when it comes to the bat in college baseball.

As for Georgia Tech, the offense has shown no signs of slowing down as they averaged ten runs per game last week. Coming off of yet another ridiculous week at the plate, Vahn Lackey continues to lead the offense and is coming off of ACC Player of the Week honors, owning a 1.574 OPS and a team-leading nine home runs. Every other regular but Jarren Advincula who is sitting at .999 all have an OPS over 1.000. As a team, the Jackets still lead the nation in batting average (.407) and on-base percentage (.528) while they rank within the top three in both slugging percentage (.699) and home runs (41).
