Coming off of a 4-0 week in which Georgia Tech swept Wake Forest at home and took down the #5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs at Truist Park, the Jackets are getting hot again and are working on a six-game win streak. They’ll look to improve it to seven games on Tuesday evening as they hit the road to make the quick trip up I-75 to take on the Kennesaw State Owls of Conference-USA.
It is the second time these two programs are meeting this season, the first coming at home for the Jackets, an 11-4 win on April 7th. Since then, the Owls are 4-7 while the Jackets are 9-2. It’s the first time since May 10th of 2023 that these two team have met in Kennesaw, which was the last time the Owls defeated the Jackets as Georgia Tech is currently working on a four-game win streak over them.
Junior right-hander Carson Ballard will get the start for Georgia Tech, his second start in as many weeks. He made his first start of the season and eighth of his career a week ago against Georgia, throwing 4.1 innings while allowing four earned runs. In 11 total appearances on the season, he owns a 4.09 ERA across 22 innings with a 24.0% strikeout rate to an 8.7% walk rate.
For Kennesaw State, it will be freshman left-hander Jayden Summerville making his fourth start of the season. His most recent start came against Dallas Baptist on April 3rd, a start out of the weekend rotation in which he wasn’t able to complete the first inning of, allowing four earned runs without giving up a hit, but issuing five walks. He is putting together a decent freshman campaign all things considered though, striking out 22.5% of hitters in 20.2 innings across 14 appearances thus far. He certainly has quite the task in front of him with navigating through the Jackets lineup. The most innings he has thrown in a start this year is four, so definitely expect some form of a bullpen game from the Owls.
